Arlene Phillips

Arlene Phillips OBE, is an internationally renowned choreographer, a theatre director, talent scout, TV presenter, and former dancer. She was born in 1943 and grew up in Lancashire, England. Originally, she wanted to be a ballet dancer and began ballet and tap dance classes at the age of three. During her teens, Arlene, discovered modern jazz and later developed her own style of Jazz dance, establishing herself as a successful teacher and choreographer.

In the mid-1970s, Arlene became a household name as the director and choreographer of a British dance troupe called, Hot Gossip. She has worked on popular musicals in the West End, Broadway theatre, a number of films, and co- choreographed the 2002 Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies. In 2010 Arlene wrote her book series, 'Alana Dancing Star', about a girl who loves to dance. She has two daughters and lives in London with her partner.

Author's Comment: For me, dancing is like breathing. It makes me who I am. And I think secretly there's a yearning to dance in all of us...It's a fun way to fitness and an amazing boost to wellbeing - I defy anyone not to feel better after a good session dancing to great music.
