Marc McBride has illustrated over fifty book covers and countless magazines, and has produced artwork for advertising campaigns. He has a solid design background in both advertising and film, and won the West Australian Film and Television Award for Best Art Director. Marc has had work exhibited with the New York Society of Illustrators. Marc's love of fantasy began when he was a young boy watching Star Wars for the first time. His early heroes were animators such as Ray Harryhausen, who worked on movies such as Jason and the Argonauts, and when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up he would reply, 'King Kong'. Marc's soaring imagination has never been more evident than in the fantasy jacket art he has created for the Deltora Quest series.

Author's Comment: The medium I used for Deltora was acrylic paint and inks. Using an airbrush and paintbrushes I created the series in quite a traditional way - that is, not digital. I feel that this more organic painting works for me in the creation of people, monsters etc. If I had been asked to create spaceships or futuristic cities perhaps I would have used a computer. Nature has pattern in even the strangest of creatures and I wanted to have this in the Deltora Quest monsters, to give them some sense of reality.
