Alan MacDonald was born in Watford, England and now lives a stone’s throw from the River Trent in Nottingham. He is married with three children. After several years acting and directing in a travelling theatre company, he turned full time to writing in 1990 and has since published more than sixty books for children. He is best known for his humorous fiction for the seven to ten age group.

Recent popular series include the Dirty Bertie books (with creator and illustrator, David Roberts), Iggy the Urk and Troll Trouble, plus he is currently working on a new series about a gang of highly irregular child superheroes.

When not busy with books, Alan writes scripts for children’s television, working on many successful series such as Horrid Henry, The Tweenies, Boo! and Fimbles.
