Tim Federle was born in Foster City, California, and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His early career included acting, singing, dancing, and choreography, before he became an author, director and screenwriter. Tim is the creator and showrunner of High School Musical: the Musical: the Series, for which he was nominated for eleven Emmy Awards, and won the GLAAD Media Award and five Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Federle's debut novel for middle graders, Better Nate Than Ever, tells the story of 13-year-old Nate, who sneaks away from his home in Pennsylvania to audition for E.T: The Musical on Broadway.
