L.A. Meyer
Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1942, Louis A. Meyer spent his early years moving between Germany and the US due to his father's military service. He later studied English Literature at the University of Florida in Gainesville where he met his future wife, Annetje Lawrence. After a short career wih the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era, Meyer married his college sweetheart and they spent a year in New York City before settling in Scituate, Massachusetts. Here he enrolled in Boston University's Master of Fine Arts program and received his MFA in Painting in 1973.
They eventually settled in the small fishing village of Corea on the coast of Maine, where Meyer wrote novels, painted and operated an art gallery with his wife until his death from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2014. His final Jacky Faber book, Wild Rover No More, was published posthumously in late 2014.
Author's Comment: Growing up as an army brat, I often lived by the sea. The time I spent next to the Chesapeake Bay is one I remember especially fondly. As an adult I spent some time in the navy, and lived on the South Shore of Boston when I was going to grad school and teaching art to high school students. Later my wife, Annetje, and I lived for seven years on a houseboat in Florida while raising our kids. Now we live in a small fishing village on the coast of Maine. I walk down to the sea every day.
