Sophie McKenzie is the bestselling author of more than 15 novels for children and teens in the UK, including the award winning Girl, Missing and Sister, Missing. She has won numerous awards, was one of the first Richard and Judy children’s book club winners, and has twice been longlisted for the prestigious Carnegie Medal. When she’s not writing herself, McKenzie works as a creative writing teacher.

In her spare time she likes watching football with her son and going out with friends and family for tasty meals and good movies. She doesn’t like rats, rudeness or shoe shopping and she loves dim sum, acts of kindness and great stories. Sophie lives with her son in London.



Author's Comment: I read avidly as a child and particularly loved books by Elizabeth Goudge, Nina Bawden and E. Nesbit. I also adored the older series fiction produced by Enid Blyton, Laura Ingalls WIlder, Willard Price and many, many others. However I stopped reading completely between the ages of 13 and 16 because there were no stories that I could relate to as a young teenager. I only started picking up books again once I'd found my way into the classics (through school) and contemporary adult fiction.

I think the world of children's novels today is unrecognisable from the one in which I grew up. There's so much wonderful writing out there.
